bush to beach 2017
For the past 11 years South Narrabeen SLSC has proudly run the Bush to Beach event, hosted over 600 Aboriginal children from the outback town of Brewarrina. 'Bre' is a remote town with a population of 1200. To qualify for the program the children must have strong school attendance and generally be a good kid.
Each year South Narrabeen SLSC members, local businesses and the community have invest over 1000 voluntary hours, prepare over 600 meals, teach the kids CPR/first aid, expose them to a range of activities such as Tae Kwon Do, Circus workshops, surfboard riding and attend the Academy of Sport for activities like rock climbing and archery. In 2017 the event will run over three days. On Friday January 27, children and 8 Elders from Brewarrina arrive and keenly look forward to the weekend. Over the Friday and Saturday the children undertake the above activities. On Sunday the children compete with and against our local nippers where many friendships are forged between city and country kids. We thank the sponsors/ supporters, Commonwealth Bank, Federal Government, Minister for Emergency Services, Brewarrina Council, Roche Products, Northern Beaches Council, Manly Surf School, Hans, Primo, Reilly and Sons Food Services, Sydney Markets Foundation, Collaroy Services Beach Club, Pizza Hut, Catering by Design, Unilever, Murdi Paaki, Regional Employment Corporation and McDonalds Dubbo.
